As gas prices and global warming fears soar, so has the use of bicycles. And not surprisingly, a debate about whether that's a good thing or a bad thing has followed in tandem.

As part of the drive to be green at last week's Democratic National Convention, the health care firm Humana Inc. sponsored bike borrowing stations around Denver so people would use cars less, be healthier and reduce carbon emissions. In general, bicycle use has increased dramatically in some major cities, as well as bikes being taken on buses.
