In a way, the proposed buyers of bankrupt North Oakland Medical Centers hope to salvage the contents of an old and sinking ship, in order to outfit a newly commissioned one.

Anil Kumar, a urologist in Rochester Hills and president of the recently incorporated Oakland Physicians Medical Center L.L.C., said last week he is unlikely to seek the job.
