THE number of robberies on South Yorkshire's streets has risen by nearly 27 per cent in the last year because people are being targeted for expensive electrical gadgetry including MP3 players and mobile phones.
New crime figures released by the county's police force showed an overall fall in crime between April 2006 and March 2007.
But robberies have soared - in line with other forces - because of muggings for state-of-the-art electrical goods.
The figures showed the number of crimes being detected had improved slightly but is still worryingly low at 25 per cent.
