IT started off as a celebration of the Trades Union movement, which bought the historic Wortley Hall from Wharncliffe Estates, to be used and enjoyed by its members.
But over the years the South Yorkshire Festival has become so much more than the chance for different unions to get together.
The unions' stalls are still there, but what organisers describe as 'the event of the year' has expanded and now boasts lots of activities for children, games, stalls and competitions.
