Vehicle sales in Thailand have doubled since 1991 and are expected to double again in the next five years

AYUTTHAYA, Thailand - A few miles from the ancient temples of this former capital of the Kingdom of Siam, Honda Motor Co. President Nobuhiko Kawamoto invited Thai officials and other guests to don 3-D spectacles for a multimedia presentation on the Japanese automaker's plans for Thailand.

The occasion was the grand opening of a $114 million greenfield plant to build an all-new Honda car exclusively for Southeast Asia. The presentation, plant and car left no doubt that Honda sees a spectacular future for the Thai auto market.
