THE latest attempt to start meat sector consolidation by the Meat Industry Action Group failed on Friday, and the next batter - PGG Wrightson - steps up to the plate today.
Dunedin-based co-operative Silver Fern Farms holds a vote on plans to sell half the company to listed rural services business PGG Wrightson for $220 million.
The deal is promoted as creating a pasture-to-plate supply chain and a platform for industry rationalisation.
The feeling around the sector is the PGG Wrightson deal, which needs 75 per cent support, is tight but it will be approved.
