As Ralph Poole walked the aisles of the Los Angeles Boat Show in January 1971, it struck him that the boating industry lacked a consumer magazine that targeted the heart of the market--the trailerboater. Sure, there were a handful of boating publications, but they were all about yachting and were filled with dreamy stories about cruising the Caribbean and uppity pieces about the New York Yacht Club.
