As Ralph Poole walked the aisles of the Los Angeles Boat Show in January 1971, it struck him that the boating industry lacked a consumer magazine that targeted the heart of the market--the trailerboater. Sure, there were a handful of boating publications, but they were all about yachting and were filled with dreamy stories about cruising the Caribbean and uppity pieces about the New York Yacht Club. The millions of small trailerable boat owners were grossly overlooked.
