ROTHERHAM is to compile a register of people who keep poultry as part of plans to combat any outbreak of bird flu.
The Government has set up a countrywide Poultry Register which commercial farmers - those with 50 or more birds - have to sign.
Rotherham Council is to set up its own register for people keeping smaller numbers of poultry.
The move is part of measures the council is considering to try to cope if bird flu arrives in this country.
People who keep a few hens on their allotment or back garden are asked to sign the local register as well as people who breed small number of game birds for shooting.
