A SPECIAL badge of honour has been created for the Lord Mayor's consort, thanks to Sheffield Assay Office.
It is the first time a consort - traditionally a male relative of a female Lord Mayor - has been offered a badge of office in recognition of the work he doesalongside the Lord Mayor in their year of duty.
Assay Master Ashley Carson said: "When the Lord Mayor is male, usually their wife or partner becomes the Lady Mayoress and receives a special chain to wear in honour of her work.
"But when the Lord Mayor is female they have a consort to assist them in their work, but there has never been a badge to give to them.
