A BENEFIT cheat fiddled thousands of pounds from taxpayers - despite having almost a MILLION pounds in his bank account.
Taxi driver Andrew McKone, of Palm Street, Walkley, claimed [pounds sterling]6,778 of housing and council tax benefit over three years, while secretly investing an [pounds sterling]822,000 fortune in bank accounts and property.
But the crooked cabbie was snared following checks on his bank accounts by council workers.
When interviewed by police, McKone claimed he had never declared the money because he did not want his wife to know about it as he had "previously been divorced and walked away with nothing".
