SHEFFIELD soldiers who played their part in the Suez Canal Crisis are being invited to a civic reception.
Lord Mayor Jackie Drayton is inviting veterans of the Suez Campaign to attend a ceremony at Sheffield Town Hall.
The Suez Campaign lasted between 1951 and 1954 and preceded the Suez Crisis of 1956. It claimed 300 lives but the men who were posted in Egypt were not recognised for years.
After much lobbying, the Government agreed to issue a medal to the 'forgotten army' of the Suez Campaign.
Those same men are now invited to a reception to finally honour the role they played.
