MORE pregnant women with drug problems are seeking help from a specialist midwifery service in Sheffield than ever before, new figures reveal.
A total of 196 women addicted to substances such as heroin and crack cocaine are now under the care of specialist midwives at the city's Jessop Wing maternity hospital.
Figures have more than quad-rupled in six years since the substance misuse midwifery service was launched in 2001, when 46 pregnant women were helped. A year later, numbers doubled with 90 women seeking help.
