BRITAIN is giving up the key to its economic future by neglecting manufacturing, former CBI director general Sir John Banham warned delegates attending the Sheffield Economic Summit.
Sir John, who is now chairman of Johnson Matthey, one of Britain's most successful FTSE100 companies, also attacked management of the public sector, which accounts for 46 per cent of the UK economy.
"Everything the public sector tries to manage turns out to be a catastrophe," said Sir John, before outlining a five point plan for Sheffield's future success.
