WASHINGTON -- While the National Institutes of Health (NIH) appears to be well on its way of fulfilling mandates imposed under reform legislation passed by Congress two years ago, the unpredictability of funding for the agency puts its reorganization plan and future in peril, NIH's director told lawmakers Tuesday.
Congress passed legislation in 2006, enacted in January 2007, intended to reorganize and reauthorize funding for the NIH, an agency composed of 27 institutes and centers.
