Shell Oil Co. and its partners are building a tension-leg platform (TLP) to produce yet another record deep-water oil and gas field -- the $1.45 billion Ursa project -- in the Gulf of Mexico.
The platform, now being designed, will be the largest TLP in the Gulf and its individual wells are expected to produce at rates "not thought possible just a few years ago," said Rich Pattarozzi, general manager of subsidiary Shell Offshore Inc.'s deep-water division, in announcing development plans on Tuesday.
Ursa, located in 3,950 feet of water 135 miles southeast of New Orleans, is estimated to contain 250 million to 500 million bbl of oil equivalent.
