INJURED and abandoned animals could find a home in Stanley if plans for a wildlife sanctuary are approved.
Jenny Beecher, who is chairman of registered charity Pugneys Swan and Wildlife Sanctuary, has submitted a planning application to Wakefield Council to run a sanctuary at Chapel Street.
Mrs Beecher developed a passion for looking after animals after she rescued an injured cygnet at Newmillerdam in 1989.
Since then she has nursed and released thousands of animals including birds, hedgehogs, squirrels and baby foxes - all voluntarily.
