Article: United States: Water pipeline would cost Grand Forks $27 million.

Byline: sandesh03

A proposed pipeline that would bring Missouri River to the Red River Valley in a drought would cost the city of Grand Forks an estimated $27 million, city engineer Al Grasser said Tuesday.

That amount is essentially an insurance policy against a dry spell sometime in the future that some predict would rival that of the 1930s.

At the same time, it also would protect future ethanol plants that may develop in the valley. Critics of the pipeline argue the valley should live within its means and not deliberately invite such industries.
