With his fate in the hands of a judge, ANC president Jacob Zuma broke his silence and reaffirmed his party's faith in the judiciary, but cautioned that the Bench was not above criticism and transformation.
His call for "restraint" and truce came after weeks of concerted verbal attacks on the judiciary by the ANC and its alliance leaders.
He agreed with his deputy, Kgalema Motlanthe, on respecting the constitutional role of the judiciary.
The ANC leader will know in 48 hours whether Pietermaritzburg High Court Judge Chris Nicholson agrees that his prosecution is invalid.
