The lack of information is the main reason that 53% of Ireland's population voted against the Lisbon Treaty in the referendum held on 12 June. This is what has been revealed by the conclusions of an independent study ordered by the Irish government to understand the results of the ballot. At this stage, any new referendum seems unlikely before the European elections in June 2009.
