CHICAGO, July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Illinois Central Corporation (NYSE: IC) today reported net income for the second quarter ended June 30, 1996, of $31.4 million ($.51 per share) compared to second quarter 1995 income of $29.6 million ($.47 per share) before an extraordinary charge for the refinancing of debt last year.

Second quarter 1996 revenues were $153.4 million, down 2 percent compared to $156.5 million for 1995. Second quarter 1996 operating expenses of $97 million were down 3.6 percent resulting in an operating ratio of 63.2 percent, a 1.1 percentage point improvement compared to second quarter 1995.
