THE CONSERVATIVE Party emerged victorious from Bassetlaw's local elections on Thursday night when they won three seats from Labour and a fourth from the Independent Party giving them overall control of the council.
The Conservative party took nine seats of a possible 16 leaving The Labour Party with just seven.
The Labour losses follow two exceptionally hard weeks for the party whose reputation nationally has been tarred by rows over the NHS, foreign prisoners and Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott's affair with his diary secretary.
