Ford 2000, the number two automaker's strategic plan to take advantage of emerging global markets, is having far reaching effects on Ford's supplier base and on its purchasing operations.

Under Ford 2000, Ford merged its North American operations with its European operations and Automotive Components Group. The automaker moved to a single set of worldwide processes and systems in product development, manufacturing supply, and sales. Ford set up five vehicle program centers that have worldwide responsibility for design, development, and engineering for vehicles assigned to them.
