Seattle SuperSonics point guard Gary Payton recently was named to the men's U.S. Olympic Basketball Team (Dream Team III) after Milwaukee Bucks forward Glenn Robinson sustained an Achilles tendon injury and withdrew from the team.

Payton, who piloted the Sonics to the NBA Finals before losing to the Chicago Bulls in six games, is the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

Payton, who turns 28 on July S, was in the running with Sonics forward Shawn Kemp, Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd and Bucks forward Vin Baker.
