Environment Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk has been challenged to speak out against the mining of the Wild Coast, recently approved by his Minerals and Energy colleague, Buyelwa Sonjica.
The opposition DA has warned that much of the work by Van Schalkwyk's department on the Wild Coast will be compromised by the recent pro-mining decision in respect of the pristine Xolobeni area of Pondoland.
"He must request that (Sonjica) suspend her decision to grant the right until an internal appeals process has run its course," DA environment spokesman Gareth Morgan warned yesterday
