Though the approach of Hurricane Gustav initially cast a pall over the Republican National Convention in Minnesota, that didn't stop the welcoming committee from rolling out the red carpet for the media. It's not like hell or high water would keep journalists away from free food and booze.
The Republican kickoff was certainly a less surreal affair than the press event held during the Democratic National Convention.
