Like their counterparts on the U.S. Olympic basketball squad, they are our global competitors, taking on the world. And just like Messrs. Pippen, Barkley, Olajuwon & Co., they are paid staggering amounts of money for their services.
In 1995 once again, top executives of the region's 229 publicly traded companies posted eye-popping gains in their salaries and other compensation- part of a nationwide phenomenon that, depending on your viewpoint, is either a shameful display of greed and hubris or the just reward of a free market in the most successful economy on earth.
