Sep. 14--When Stephanie Springer's cystic fibrosis was diagnosed when she was a baby, she wasn't expected to live past 8 years old. She's 22 now.
Springer's disease was diagnosed after she had a stroke at 5 months old.
Cystic fibrosis occurs in one in every 3,000 births and is the No. 1 one genetic killer of children and young adults, according to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Although Springer, who lives in Trinity, has beaten the odds of her life expectancy, lately her health has been getting worse.
