The Last Book: Recently the Times Literary Supplement compiled a list of the hundred most influential books published since the Second World War. The list was put together by a distinguished group of academics and writers (Dahrendoff, Furet, Kramer, Kolakowski, and others) who chose to reach beyond the end of the war to include titles that had a profound impact on post-war culture and society. As a public service and an introduction to our annual all-fiction issue, we reprint that list as a reminder of the power of books, of their importance in the new information age, and of the central role they play in our lives.
