In her introduction, Carolyn A. Sheehy states that this work "attempts to provide a practical perspective on managing performing arts collections in academic and public libraries that are not solely devoted to the performing arts," and that "the aim of this book is to assist academic and public librarians working with performing arts materials, library students considering a career in performing arts librarianship, and those members of the community interested in conducting performing arts research" (p. xi).
