ATLANTA _ Sunday afternoon was Dawn Staley's revenge.
As a kid growing up in North Philadelphia, she would go to the neighborhood rec center and play basketball with the other kids. But as the only girl in the house, she had to be patient.
``I wasn't always the first player picked,'' Staley said. ``Heck, I wasn't always the 10TH player picked. But I kept showing up and playing hard and I gradually got to the point where I was accepted.''
Pause.
``And as long as I kept passing to the guys and not shooting, I'd keep getting picked,'' she said.
Staley laughed. She had just finished a tour de feminine force for the U.S. women's basketball ...
