New cocktail dresses back again for $5 each
Imagine teenage girls going through thousands of donated dresses to aid Operation Glass Slipper, which helps low-income families send girls to prom in style. Those same teens were ruthless as they rejected more than 1,000 dresses as being too short, too sophisticated or too cocktail-y for prom. Their loss is an older gal's gain. Nearly all of the dresses -- only $5 each -- are new, donated by bridal and prom shops. The cocktail and tea-length dresses work well for cruisewear, mother-of-the-bride or other special occasions.
