LOS ANGELES - A dart board hangs on the conference room wall of Ford Motor Co.'s western regional office. Were this Detroit, a General Motors logo probably would reside on the bull's eye. But this is California, so the bull's eye is occupied by Honda and Toyota logos.
For, unlike the rest of the country, the three top-selling vehicles in the 1.5 million-vehicle California market are the Honda Accord, the Toyota Camry and the Honda Civic.
Here, Toyota regularly outsells Chrysler Corp. at the retail level. And while Ford and GM are neck-and-neck, each with a market share of 23 percent, Japanese imports combined hold 32 percent.
