WASHINGTON -- The fourth wildcat well drilled recently along the west coast of Newfoundland Island has not panned out -- but oil companies aren't giving up hope yet.
Four exploration blocks are covered by still-active exploration licenses in onshore and offshore areas of western Newfoundland, and four more blocks are up for bid.
While not there is not the same level of activity as can be found off the east coast of Newfoundland around the Hibernia, Terra Nova and Whiterose fields, companies still are interested.
Hunt Oil Co. and PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd. said Friday that they will plug and abandon their St. George's Bay A-36 well, an offshore wildcat ...
