In an attempt to pull a chiropractic benefits bill from the veto bonfire, New York Governor George Pataki took the unusual step of introducing a compromise bill he felt he could sign. But health insurers, the bill's most vocal critics, said the governor's version is no different.
"The new bill is essentially the same as the old bill," said spokesperson Deborah Bohren of Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of several Blues in the state actively protesting the legislation. "We feel consumers should retain choice instead of having a mandated benefit."
