It has now been more than a month since the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Buyelwa Sonjica, announced that a mining right would be granted to Transworld Energy to mine in the pristine Xolobeni area along the Wild Coast.
Yet the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Marthinus van Schalkwyk, has remained quiet on the matter, despite having stated his opposition to mining in this area on several occasions before. But now it appears that much of the work of his department in the Wild Coast is going to be compromised.
Van Schalkwyk must ask Sonjica to suspend her decision to grant the right until an internal appeals process has run its course.
