UAW: Chrysler, ZF near axle deal
DETROIT The UAW is telling Chrysler LLC axle workers that the automaker plans to team up with German axle maker ZF Friedrichshafen AG to operate an axle plant being built in Marysville, Mich. Chrysler intends to open the plant in 2010.
UAW officials were at Chrysler's Detroit Axle Plant on Thursday, Sept. 11, telling workers about the negotiations, said a source briefed on the talks. The $700 million Marysville plant would replace Detroit Axle and employ 900 workers.
ZF spokesman Frank Buscemi told Automotive News that ZF is in talks with Chrysler but there is no agreement.
