Yelps of pain from the bowels of Birmingham Council House as arms are twisted and backbones stiffened.
A softening-up exercise to make the stroppier members of the city planning committee see reason over an application to build a 35-storey tower in Colmore Row must, presumably, have succeeded.
Most members dismissed the scheme as totally unacceptable in July. But the matter will be reconsidered on Thursday.
Like the Irish referendum on the European Constitution, I suspect they will have to try again and again until ...
