Jul. 26--Carlie Matthews came to Strawbridge's yesterday looking for summer clothing and got a pleasant surprise. For a pair of khaki shorts and a polo shirt by Tommy Hilfiger, he had expected to pay nearly $80 but ended up spending less than $30.
"I didn't expect it because although I walked in looking for a sale," Matthews said. "I looked around and it didn't seem like anything was on sale." And so it went yesterday as shoppers got their first look at the reincarnated Philadelphia department store.
