IT MAY have taken a Paarl grandmother 37 years to finish high school, but she has finally done it thanks to her determination.
Charmaine Martin, 55, wanted to matriculate and also hoped her return to school last year would inspire life-long learning in her three adult children. Martin was named Western Cape Adult Learner of the Year at the recent Learning Cape Festival's Adult Learning Awards in Hawston.
Martin was one of two grandmothers chosen as the Western Cape's winning adult learners. First runner-up was 64-year-old Gugulethu great-grandmother, Maria Xayiya, and Simon Jansen was third.
