ATLANTA _ Late in 1984, as Carl Lewis burnished his four gold medals, Tom Tellez saw a Mexican painter's handiwork in an exhibition.
The painting was of Carl, airborne, eyes glowing on high beams, his legs flying over the board and sand and every human being who would apprehend him.
``The painting was called `The Fighter,' '' said Tellez late Monday night, in the depths of Centennial Olympic Stadium. ``That, to me, summed up everything Carl is. The fighter. That's what he's been.''
