Omega-3 fish body oil supplements have been linked to cardiovascular health and the treatment of other illnesses. But new research suggests they may actually impede wound healing.
In a recently published study, wounds on people taking fish oil supplements were compared to the wounds of people taking a placebo. The wounds healed in about the same amount of time for both groups. But at the cellular level, something unexpected happened. The levels of proteins associated with initiating and sustaining inflammation were higher among participants who had taken the active fish oil supplements.
