Jul. 29--Job burnout can make you view life through rust-colored glasses, according to career counselor Bonnie Miller.
But there are ways to scrape the rust away and manage stress to avoid burnout, she said.
"Everybody feels overwhelmed sometimes," Miller said. "An important task is to learn how to treat not the symptoms of burnout, but to come to terms with the causes of burnout."
Burnout is a dangerous condition that sets in during chronic periods of stress. It takes an emotional, psychological and sometimes even physical toll on its victims, she said.
It can result in job disillusionment, declining work performance and absenteeism, she said.
