ATLANTA _ Greeks won six gymnastics medals in the first modern Olympics, but they hadn't won a gold for 100 years until Sunday night.
Ioannis Melissanidis, a 19-year-old kid with a face that would be equally at home on an ancient Greek coin or behind the counter in the Athens McDonald's, took the gold in the men's floor exercise.
Amy Chow, 18, a straight-A student from San Jose, Calif., tied for second in the women's uneven bars, becoming the first American gymnast to win an individual medal at Atlanta.
Chow, who will attend Stanford this fall, shared the silver with Bi Wenjiing, a tiny Chinese girl celebrating her 15th birthday Sunday.
