This book consists of 13 chapters on the political finances of 14 countries (one chapter deals briefly with certain features of U.S. and Canadian political financing) and an introductory essay by the editors. It "took root" at a conference in Tokyo on political finance and electoral laws in September 1989. It is a typical edited work; individual chapters serve as case studies of individual countries, some chapters are more informative and better organized than others, and little attention is paid to integrating and synthesizing the materials presented.
