This short book provides case studies of the legislatures in seven Latin American countries, as well as an introduction by the editor and a conclusion. The overall rationale for the book is that legislatures either have become more important under democracy than they previously were, or that they should become more important if they have not already done so. Otherwise, a key ingredient in the institutionalization of democracy would be lacking.
