Educating for diversity can occur across disciplines and in a variety of settings, including classrooms, playing fields, community theaters, and gymnasiums. By teaching the people we interact with to be more inclusive, respectful, and appreciative of diversity, we bring about social change.
Social change can be defined as any significant shift in the condition of society and the lives of its members, either positively or negatively. In this article, social change will refer to a positive shift in society toward a greater inclusion of all people, most notably those social groups who have been historically disenfranchised in the United States.
