Lake Victoria is in danger of being overwhelmed by a weed that is choking it to death. The livelihoods of thousands who work on the lake are already at risk.
Water hyacinth, the bulbous, fast spreading weed, is causing havoc to shipping and fishing on Lake Victoria.
The lake is the largest in Africa; it is the source of the River Nile and is bordered by three east African states: Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
