Nobody ever preached to Chris Ward to follow his dreams; it just came naturally.
``I was very focused as a kid,'' Ward told me over breakfast a few weeks ago. ``I didn't want to party. I was into the cowboy thing rodeo, horses and, of course, music.''
Focus was only half of it. ``I always wanted to live things. I couldn't just think about them,'' Ward said.
So when he became interested in police work at age 13, he joined a Police Explorer post. After serving as an MP in the Marines, he became a police officer, then a homicide detective in California and Washington state.
