NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--Aug. 1--Wal-Mart has super plans for Hampton Roads.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based discount retailer will expand its Newport News and Suffolk stores into supercenters and will build a new one at Salem Crossing in Virginia Beach, said spokesman Les Copeland.
The company began expanding the Hampton Wal-Mart into a supercenter in the spring. Wal-Mart supercenters include a grocery store along with the chain's usual assortment of merchandise, much like the Super Kmart in Tabb.
"It's still very early on these projects," he said. "We're in the process of getting permits and final approval."
