New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson this week forced out three top Corrections Department officials who refused to support a controversial proposal to privately build and run two bond-financed prisons.

Corrections Secretary Karl Sannicks and two other department officials quit Monday after Johnson demanded their resignations, officials with the Corrections Department and governor's office confirmed yesterday. Johnson also sought the resignations of six other prison system department heads as part of an attempt to remove opponents to privately managing the $150 million project.
